COOK, POWER
STROKEŽ DIESEL FORD
SECOND IN MEMPHIS NCTS CLASH
Memphis, TN
(June 22, 2002) - Terry Cook scored his second Top-5 finish
of the season rallying a solid second-place effort
in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 200
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park
Saturday.
"I think it was a
situation that if we could have got the Power StrokeŽ
Diesel Ford around Travis Kvapil, we may have been
able to pull away," said Cook, who
started eighth in the 200 Lap event. "He did a great job and
kept his truck on the bottom of the track.
You needed to be on the bottom and that's where he was running.
The Power Stroke Diesel Ford was a work horse, but
it became tight through the center and eventually tighter because
we had an aero
push."
Cook wasted
little time jumping into the Top-5 at the drop of the green.
The seven-year NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
veteran stayed there throughout the event
falling out of the front-running group only when he pitted for
fresh tires and fuel. After each stop, Cook would
race his way back through the field
eventually closing to the back of Kvapil's tailgate in the final
laps.
"When
I finally ran down Travis, the only thing I could do was try to
get a run on him off
the corner and get up underneath him," said Cook. "I had
him a couple a times getting underneath him
in Turn 1. He started to come down the track
when I was beside him. If I would have hit him he probably would
have wrecked. I wouldn't have done that because
that's not the way I race.
Hopefully,
Travis will return the favor one day." Cook
earned $29,975 for his Top-5 effort. The Indianapolis, IN resident
is currently ninth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series Points Standings, 160 markers
out of first.
Next up
Cook takes a trip down memory lane at the famed Milwaukee Mile
where his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start
occurred in 1996. Last season, Cook
announced Power Stroke Diesel's partnership with K-Automotive
Motorsports prior to the
event before turning in a fourth-place performance.
"Last
year at Milwaukee was a great success for myself, Power Stroke
Diesel by International, Ford and K-Automotive
Motorsports," said Cook. "This will
be Power Stroke's one year anniversary as a truck sponsor in the
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. We will have
our friends from the Melrose Park (IL) office
there and employees from the Waukesha (WI) Manufacturing Plant. It
should be a fun time for all
of us."
Cook and
his No. 29 Power Stroke Diesel Ford take the green flag in the
GNC Live Well 200 at The Milwaukee Mile Saturday,
June 29 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
The event will be telecast live on ESPN. MRN Radio will
also carry the event on more than 350 stations worldwide including
the American Armed
Forces Network.
