COOK,
POWER STROKEŽ DIESEL FORD 25th
AT SOUTH BOSTON
Engine woes derailed Terry Cook for the second-straight race as
the No. 29
Power
Stroke Diesel Ford team posted a disappointing 25th-place finish
in
the
Hardee's 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at South Boston
Speedway
Saturday.
"We definitely
had a shot at another win with the truck we've won with three
out
of four times this season," said Cook. "Unfortunately,
less than 30 laps
into
the race, the water temperatures started to rise at unhealthy
levels.
Then,
we got caught up in a wreck when a truck got sideways and that
just
added
to our problems we were having before."
The four-time NCTS
winner this season played a patient waiting game in the
early
stages of the race running fifth behind Ted Musgrave, Dennis
Setzer,
Mike
Bliss and Rick Crawford.
"I radioed to
crew chief Bob Keselowski early on and told him that we had a
really
good truck," said Cook. "We needed a chassis adjustment
because the
truck
was loose, but other than that we certainly had a truck capable of
winning
the race. It's just unfortunate for this Power Stroke Diesel Ford
team
because we clawed our way into championship contention only to
have
mechanical
problems in the last two races."
The outlook for a
good finish went south on Lap 72 when Cook was caught up
in
a wreck in front of him. The melee caused significant damage to
the front
end
of his black, red and silver Power Stroke Diesel Ford by
International.
"We came into
the pits for repairs and the water temperature was as high if
not
higher as it had been before," said Cook. "We just did
our best and kept
coming
in to try to cool the engine down, but it kept pushing water out
the
remainder
of the race. The team did a great job of keeping us out. We didn't
want
another DNF. Our goal was to do the best we could possibly do with
the
cards
we were dealt. We were determined to finish the race and try to
pick
up
as many positions as we could."
Cook earned $5,440
for the effort. He is currently fifth, 177 points markers
from
first, in the 2002 NCTS championship standings.
After a couple weeks
off, Power Stroke Diesel Ford team's next challenge is
the
Las Vegas 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday, October 13. The
event
will
be telecast by ESPN and broadcast live on MRN Radio at 5 PM
Eastern
Daylight
Time.
